So sad. Thank you for your inspirational playing and the legacy you have left behind. RIP
Oh gosh, Phil,
You were never ‘Just a Shadow’,but ALWAYS the real thing.
I am crying,’For A Shadow.’
From Kakadu to Parkes, you gave us your ‘Wonderful Land ‘of music.
Thankyou,you ‘bushie’.
Love you brother.
Dave Burt,
Kingswood.
I grew up in Bondi and when Phil and Tommy were in Goldrush, they played every Sunday night at The Paddington Green Hotel.Well I went religiously every Sunday night to see them with my mates. What a way to finish off a weekend, fantastic live music.I still play the Goldrush LP to this day.Phil and Tommy were just sensational entertainers.
They also formed The Emmanuel Brothers Band after that and I saw them as often as I could.
Tommy decided to go overseas and so there was a huge farewell concert at The Coogee Bay Hotel,Salinas, where Goldrush and then The Emmanuel Brothers played. It was just 4 hours of Emmanuel magic, one of the greatest gigs.
Phil played a small solo gig at The Kincumber Hotel, and as I was living close and a total fan I went along.
During his break I went up to Phil and introduced myself and told him I had followed him through Goldrush etc.
He told me the gig was not what he expected,a very small crowd but he fulfilled his obligations like a Champion.
He signed a coaster for me “Phil Keep on Rockin”..my name is Phil..and I still have it today.
Phil Emmanuel you played in Gosford a number of years ago,at Iguana Joe’s, and I took my twin boys to see you.The place was packed and rocking so you turned up the volume, just cranked it up.
I always kept a look out for if you were touring the Sydney region,I just wanted to see you play one more time.
Vale,Phil Emmanuel, you are part of the soundtrack of my youth and beyond.
